DIY electronic instruments built inside Playmobil boxes, where childhood aesthetics meet experimental music.
Mobilplay began when my daughter, who was then a child, gave me one of her Playmobil boxes so I could fit in a synthesizer circuit I had handbuilt. Since 2015, I’ve created a whole range of DIY instruments: a modified CD player, a video synthesizer, a passive mixing console, and many portable turntables, all housed in Playmobil boxes that I hunt down at thrift stores. These are the instruments I bring to every concert.
My practice is rooted in DIY culture, recycling and repurposing obsolete technologies and everyday objects into functional instruments.
